Calcium is an important mineral in the human organism. It is of great importance for bone density (strength) and for healthy teeth. Calcium also plays an important role in the human metabolism. It is involved in the transmission of stimuli between muscles and nerve cells, intracellular signal transmission, the stabilisation of cell membranes and blood clotting. The element is mainly found in dairy products, spinach leaves and broccoli. Supplementation with calcium has proven to be effective in the case of lactose intolerance or deliberate avoidance of dairy products, for athletes, especially those involved in endurance sports (calcium loss due to heavy sweating), during the menopause and in the case of allergies. As a calcium chelate, it can enter the intestine undamaged, where it is absorbed into the body via special transport systems in the wall of the small intestine. This increases the amount of calcium supplied and improves tolerance.
