Product information "Big allergy test"
IgE blood test - antibodies against 61 common allergens
An allergy can have numerous triggers and manifest itself through a wide range of symptoms, from a cold, cough and itchy eyes to skin rashes and gastrointestinal complaints. But is it caused by pollen, animal hair, house dust or certain foods? It's often difficult to tell in everyday life.
This is where a test like the cerascreen® Large Allergy Test can help. With this home sampling and submission kit, you can determine the concentration of IgE antibodies against 61 common allergens. The test includes tree and grass pollen, dog, cat and horse hair, numerous foods, house dust mites and latex.
- Take a blood sample at home - simple + discreet
- Indication of possible cross-allergies
- Professional analysis in a specialised medical laboratory
- Medically established measurement of IgE antibodies
- Result within a few weeks of sample receipt
An increased number of certain IgE antibodies is a first indication of a possible allergy. For a definitive diagnosis, please speak to a doctor experienced in allergy diagnostics.
The advantages of the comprehensive allergy test
A comprehensive allergy test helps you to avoid overlooking possible allergy triggers that you might not have thought of. This test covers food, pollen, animal dander, house dust mites and latex - and therefore the majority of common allergens.
You take your sample for the cerascreen® Major Allergy Test at home: without hours of visits to the doctor and waiting times! The test is a blood test: a small prick in the finger is enough. A prick test (skin test) in the doctor's surgery requires many small incisions on the skin, often with redness and itching for days - after which a blood test is often also carried out.
Which allergens are tested for?
The cerascreen® Large Allergy Test measures the concentration of IgE antibodies against 61 different allergens from different categories.
Pollen: ragweed, mugwort, ribwort, glasswort, birch fig, alder, birch, hazelnut, olive, poplar, cypress, dogtooth grass, bahia grass, grass mix, timothy grass, rye
Animals: mite mix, cat shed, horse shed, dog shed, cockroach mix
Vegetables: tomato, carrot, celery, garlic, onion, green bean, potato
Fruit: banana, orange, strawberry, apple, peach, kiwi, pineapple, mango
Animal foods: egg white, milk, cod, salmon, tuna, prawns, beef, lamb, chicken
Cereals: wheat, barley, oats, maize, rice
Nuts, seeds and pulses: Walnut, hazelnut, almond, peanut, sesame, soya
Other: mustard, ginger, latex, Cladosporium herbarum
What are IgE antibodies?
In the case of an allergy, your immune defences are dysregulated. Immunoglobulins E (IgE), specific antibodies of your immune system, play a central role in this. Specific means that one type of IgE antibody is specialised to defend against very specific foreign bodies.
In the case of an allergy, such specific IgE antibodies occur too frequently in the body. They trigger a malfunction of the immune system when they encounter harmless proteins contained in food, animal hair, pollen and house dust mites, for example.
The mast cells, a type of immune cell, then release the messenger substance histamine. The histamine then causes inflammation, which in turn leads to the typical allergy symptoms.
The most common allergies, which we also analyse in this test, are immediate-type allergies. The symptoms occur immediately or shortly after you come into contact with the allergens.
Typical symptoms of an allergy are
- Asthma, coughing and breathing difficulties
- Runny nose, sneezing and an inflamed nose
- Itching and burning of the eyes
- Skin rashes
- Swelling of the eyes, mouth or throat
- Gastrointestinal complaints such as diarrhoea and constipation
What consequences can an allergy have?
Allergies are naturally unpleasant: some, such as pollen allergies, come back every year and can hardly be avoided. Others, such as food allergies, restrict the diet of many people. Still others, such as house dust allergies, make it necessary to remodel one's own home and can still be troublesome when travelling.
In addition, untreated allergies can be accompanied by a number of secondary symptoms. This applies in particular to inhalant allergies such as those to pollen, animals and house dust mites. They can increase the risk of allergic asthma in the long term if you are constantly exposed to the allergens. If the mucous membranes are constantly irritated, the risk of sinusitis also increases.
What are cross-allergies?
With an allergy, your immune system reacts to allergens, i.e. certain proteins found in food, pollen, animal dander and so on. These allergens are sometimes very similar in their chemical structure. In this case, a cross-allergy can occur. Your body then reacts to certain substances because you are allergic to other substances.
Cross-reactions between a pollen allergy and certain types of fruit, vegetables and nuts occur most frequently.
Typical symptoms are tingling on the palate, itching or burning in the mouth or swelling of the face.
The "birch-fruit syndrome" even has its own name. People with a birch pollen allergy have symptoms when they eat fruit, often apples, for example.
