Betadona® Liquid Soap – The right choice for hygienic hand disinfection and antiseptic washing. It provides comprehensive germ-killing action against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and protozoa. Betadona Liquid Soap reliably cleanses the skin and nourishes it with moisturising ingredients.
What is Betadona® Liquid Soap and what is it used for?
Povidone-iodine has a broad-spectrum germicidal effect. It is effective against bacteria, fungi, spores, viruses and protozoa. There is no risk of resistance (resilience of infectious agents) to povidone-iodine due to its mode of action. By binding to povidone, the iodine largely loses the irritating properties of alcoholic iodine preparations and is well tolerated by the skin. During the action process, the iodine decolourises; the depth of the brown colour therefore indicates its effectiveness. Betadona® liquid soap contains skin-nourishing moisturising ingredients.
Indications
- For surgical and hygienic hand disinfection, as well as pre-operative skin disinfection
- For antiseptic washing

Directions for use
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as agreed with your doctor or pharmacist. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are unsure.
The recommended dose is:
Surgical hand disinfection: Wet your hands and forearms thoroughly with water. Apply approximately 5 ml of Betadona® liquid soap to your hands and rub it thoroughly into your hands and forearms for 2.5 minutes. If necessary, a brush may be used, particularly for cleaning under the nails. If required, add water to produce a generous amount of lather. Then rinse under running water. Repeat this washing procedure once more.
Hygienic hand disinfection: Rub approximately 5 ml of Betadona® liquid soap into moistened hands for 1 minute. (A little water may be added to help create a lather.) Then rinse under running water.
Antiseptic washing: Moisten the skin thoroughly with water. Apply Betadona® liquid soap (1 ml is sufficient for an area of approximately 20 cm²) and rub to produce a golden-yellow lather – adding water if necessary; then rinse off.
Disinfection of the surgical site:
- Follow the procedure described under ‘Antiseptic washing’, but continue for 5 minutes and rinse off using a sterile gauze or muslin strip soaked in water.
- Apply Betaisodona® standardised solution (not to be confused with Betadona® liquid soap) thoroughly to the cleaned area until the surgical field is evenly coloured brown, then leave to dry.
If the colour fades, a further application is required.
When preparing for an operation, avoid any accumulation of Betaisodona® solution (not to be confused with Betadona® liquid soap) beneath the patient (due to possible skin irritation caused by prolonged contact). Furthermore, accumulation may lead to skin burns.
Betadona® liquid soap is intended for external use on the skin.
