A herbal medicinal product for the symptomatic treatment of skin conditions (dermatoses) characterised by dry and slightly itchy skin.
Used as an adjunctive treatment for skin conditions involving dry and slightly itchy skin
This medicine is suitable for adults, adolescents and children aged 1 year and over. It should only be used in children under 1 year of age on the advice of a doctor. If you do not feel any better, or if your condition worsens, after 4 weeks, consult your doctor.
How does Balneum Hermal bath additive work?
- Balneum Hermal Bath Additive gently forms a film of oil on the skin. This acts as a temporary protective layer until the skin’s natural lipid barrier is restored. It reduces the loss of natural moisturising factors from the outermost layer of the skin during bathing. It also reduces the increased water evaporation associated with these skin conditions, which contributes to the development of dry skin. This has a beneficial effect on skin elasticity.
- Thanks to the emulsifiers (substances that ensure the active ingredient is finely dispersed) and the high proportion of unsaturated fatty acids, the product also has an itch-relieving, dandruff-removing and, to a certain extent, germ-inhibiting effect.
When should you use Balneum Hermal bath additive?
Balneum Hermal Bath Additive is used as a supportive treatment for skin conditions involving dry and slightly itchy skin, such as:
- atopic eczema (neurodermatitis)
- Ichthyosis
- ‘senile pruritus’ (pruritus senilis)
- eczema such as nappy rash, washing eczema and chronic eczema.
Balneum Hermal bath additive must not be used if:
- you are allergic (hypersensitive) to refined soya oil, soya, peanuts or any of the other ingredients of this medicinal product listed in section 6.
- In cases of acute, purulent forms of psoriasis (psoriasis pustulosa, psoriasis with pustules, sometimes accompanied by fever and general malaise).

Directions for use
- Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over: for a full bath (approx. 150 l), use two measuring cups (30 ml); for a partial bath (5 l), use approx. 1/4 teaspoon (1 ml).
- Children aged 1 to 11 years: for a child’s bath (approx. 25 l), use 1/3 of a measuring cup (5 ml). The product must only be used in children under 1 year of age on the advice of a doctor.
- Use in children: The product must only be used in children under 1 year of age on medical advice.
- The inside of thescrew capcanbe used as a measuring cupto measure out the required amount.
- Method of use: For use on the skin. Balneum Hermal – bath additive should be added to the running bath water and mixed in thoroughly until evenly distributed. The bath water temperature should not exceed 36 °C by any significant margin, as the moisturising effect gradually diminishes at higher temperatures. For the treatment of itching, the temperature should be 32 °C or as low as is comfortable. The duration of the bath should be determined on an individual basis, but should not exceed 15–20 minutes. For children, a treatment duration of just a few minutes is usually sufficient. The frequency of use depends on the nature and severity of the symptoms. In general, baths are recommended at intervals of 2–3 days. Daily bathing is also possible. Balneum Hermal – bath additive can also be used in the shower. To do this, apply the product undiluted to damp skin and then rinse off under the shower. After a bath or shower, the skin should only be gently patted dry with a towel. Rubbing or drying the skin vigorously reduces the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Duration of use: If you do not feel any better – or if you feel worse – after 4 weeks, consult your doctor.
