- Cholesterol is produced in the liver and is a component of every cell in the body. In addition to the cholesterol produced by the body, cholesterol can also be obtained from external sources via the diet. Triglycerides are mainly absorbed through the diet, whilst a small proportion is also produced during the breakdown of carbohydrates in the liver.
- Cholesterol and triglyceride levels can be positively influenced by a healthy lifestyle (including physical activity, avoiding alcohol, nicotine and stress) and a balanced diet.
- Red yeast rice is produced by fermenting rice (Oryza sativa) with Monascus purpureus, a type of yeast. Red yeast rice contains monacolin K.
- Berberis aristata: The berberine dry extract is obtained from the bark of Berberis aristata, a species of barberry found in the Himalayas and Nepal . The extract contains a standardised amount of berberine. Berberine has a positive effect on blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels, thereby supporting the function of the cardiovascular system.
- Policosanol is a mixture of natural fatty alcohols found in sugarcane wax (Saccharum officinarum), rice bran (Oryza sativa) or beeswax (Cera flava).
- Folic acid contributes to the normal breakdown of homocysteine. Homocysteine is a substance produced by the body during the breakdown of the amino acid methionine. Methionine is obtained from the diet. The homocysteine formed during this breakdown is subsequently converted back into methionine with the help of folic acid. ArmoLIPID® PLUS contains the recommended daily intake of folic acid.
- Coenzyme Q10 is found in many foods and can, in principle, be produced by all the body’s cells, although this ability may decline with age.
- Astaxanthin is produced by the microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis and plays a significant role in oxidation/ reduction reactions.
