Manuka honey 250g MGO 550 the active honey from New Zealand.
Manuka is a shrub plant. A relative of the tea tree, it grows wild in the uncolonised regions of New Zealand. For centuries, the honey collected by bees from the Manuka bushes has been used by the Tohunga, the Maori healer.
The positive properties of honey were recognised a long time ago. The quality of Manuka honey and the difference to other honey can be recognised by the antibacterial activity of Manuka. This is indicated by the MGO content in mg/kg. MGO stands for methylglyoxal, an ingredient of manuka.
The UMF value (unique manuka factor) is also determined in the honey. Our honey is labelled as IAA. The higher the number, the stronger the honey. Determining the values is important because they reflect the activity of the honey.
