Advantix spot-on solution for application to the skin for dogs weighing between 25 kg and 40 kg
is a veterinary medicinal product for the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, Ctenocephalides canis) and for the treatment of lice infestations (Trichodectes canis).
Indications
- For the treatment and prevention of flea infestations (Ctenocephalides felis, Ctenocephalides canis) and for the treatment of hairworm infestations (Trichodectes canis) in dogs.
- Fleas on the dog are killed within one day of treatment. A 2 single treatment provides four weeks’ protection against re-infestation.
- This veterinary medicinal product may be used as part of a strategy to treat flea allergy dermatitis (FAD) caused by flea bites. The veterinary medicinal product has a sustained killing and repellent effect against ticks (Rhipicephalus sanguineus and Ixodes ricinus for four weeks, and Dermacentor recticulatus for three weeks).
- Through its repellent effect and the killing of the vector tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus, the veterinary medicinal product reduces the likelihood of transmission of the pathogen Ehrlichia canis and thereby reduces the risk of monocytic ehrlichiosis in dogs. The reduced risk was demonstrated by studies conducted from the third day following application of the veterinary medicinal product over a period of four weeks.
- It is possible that ticks already present on the dog at the time of treatment may not be killed within 2 days of treatment and may remain attached and visible. Therefore, ticks should be removed at the time of treatment to prevent them from attaching and feeding.
- A single treatment provides a repellent (anti-feeding = preventing the blood meal) effect against sand flies (Phlebotomus papatasi for two weeks and Phlebotomus perniciosus for three weeks), against mosquitoes (Aedes aegypti for two weeks and Culex pipiens for four weeks) and against biting flies (Stomoxys calcitrans for four weeks).
- To reduce the risk of infection with the pathogen Leishmania infantum, transmitted by sand flies (Phlebotomus perniciosus), for a period of up to 3 weeks. This effect is based on the indirect action of the veterinary medicinal product against the vector.

Directions for use
- The recommended minimum dose is: 10 mg/kg body weight of imidacloprid and 50 mg/kg body weight of permethrin.
- Dosage: Dogs (kg body weight) over 25 kg up to 40 kg: 4.0 ml volume – Imidacloprid (mg/kg body weight) 10–16 – Permethrin (mg/kg body weight) 50–80.
- To reduce the risk of a flea re-infestation, it is recommended that all dogs in the household be treated. Other animals living in the same household should also be treated with suitable veterinary medicines. In addition, it is recommended to treat the environment with a suitable product against fleas and their life stages to reduce the flea burden in the environment.
- Even if the dog gets wet, the veterinary medicinal product retains its efficacy. However, prolonged and intense wetting should be avoided. Frequent wetting may shorten the duration of action . Repeat treatment must not be carried out more frequently than at weekly intervals . If the dog requires a shampoo, this should be done before applying Advantix or at the earliest two weeks afterwards, to ensure the best possible efficacy of the veterinary medicinal product .
- In the case of a chigger infestation, a check-up by the vet 30 days after treatment is recommended, as a second treatment may be necessary for some animals.
- To protect a dog throughout the entire sand fly season, treatment should be carried out continuously and without interruption.
Method of administration:
- Short-neck pipette: Remove one pipette from the pack. Hold the pipette vertically upwards. Twist the cap to remove it, place it back on the pipette upside down and twist until the seal breaks. Then remove the cap from the pipette again.
- For dogs weighing 10 kg or less: The dog should stand still. Part the fur between the shoulder blades until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and squeeze firmly several times to empty the contents directly onto the skin.
- For dogs weighing over 10 kg: The dog should stand still. The entire contents of one pipette should be distributed evenly across four points along the dog’s back, from the shoulder to the base of the tail. At each of these points, part the fur until the skin is visible. Place the tip of the pipette on the skin and press gently to apply some of the solution directly onto the skin.
Instructions for correct use:
- For topical application to the skin only.
- Apply only to intact skin.
- To prevent the active ingredient solution from running down the animal’s side, do not apply too large a quantity of solution at each application site.

One pipette containing 4.0 ml contains: 400 mg imidacloprid, 2000 mg permethrin, 4.0 mg butylhydroxytoluene (E321).
