Activir Duo 50 mg/g + 10 mg/g cream combats cold sores in two ways. Acyclovir inhibits viral replication, whilst hydrocortisone relieves inflammation.

Activir Duo contains two active ingredients: aciclovir and hydrocortisone. Aciclovir is an antiviral agent that helps to combat the virus that causes cold sores. Hydrocortisone is a mild steroid that relieves the inflammation associated with cold sores.

Activir Duo cream is used in adults and adolescents aged 12 years or older to treat the early signs and symptoms (e.g. tingling, itching or redness) of cold sores on the lips and the skin around the lips, to reduce the risk of a blister forming.

Even if your cold sore has developed into a blister, Activir Duo will shorten the healing process by about half a day to a day compared with a cream containing no active ingredients.

A cold sore is caused by the herpes simplex virus. The virus causes blisters and sores mainly on the lips, but sometimes also on other parts of the face. A cold sore can develop when the body’s immune system is weakened, for example if you have a cold or another infection. Stress, strong sunlight, cold temperatures or your period can also trigger a cold sore.

If you do not feel any better, or if your condition has actually worsened, 5 days after finishing the treatment, please contact your doctor.

Directions for use

For external use only.
Do not use more than the recommended dose.
Adults and adolescents aged 12 years and over Apply the cream 5 times a day for 5 days (i.e. approximately every 3–4 hours whilst you are awake). It is recommended that you start treatment as soon as possible, preferably at the first signs or symptoms (e.g. tingling, redness or itching).
Do not use for longer than 5 days. If you do not feel any better, or if your condition has worsened, 5 days after finishing the treatment, contact your doctor.
How to use: Wash your hands before and after application to prevent your cold sores from getting worse or passing the infection on to someone else.
If you develop a cold sore, do not touch it any more than is necessary to avoid spreading the infection to other parts of your body or to your eyes.

Ingredients

What Activir Duo contains:

The active ingredients are: aciclovir and hydrocortisone. One gram of cream contains 50 mg of aciclovir and 10 mg of hydrocortisone.
The other ingredients are: heavy paraffin, propylene glycol, isopropyl myristate,sodium dodecyl sulphate, cetyl stearyl alcohol, white petrolatum, poloxamer 188, citric acid monohydrate, sodium hydroxide, hydrochloric acid and purified water.
