AQUACEL® Tamponade with reinforcing fibres sterile, 2 x 45 cm copy, 5 ST

The AQUACEL® tamponade uses proven hydrofibre technology for optimum absorption of wound exudate. The reinforcing fibres ensure that the dressing remains extremely tear-resistant and stable even when wet.

Aquacel™ pad with reinforcing fibres is a soft, sterile, flat wound dressing made of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose and regenerated cellulose fibres for reinforcement. This dressing absorbs large amounts of wound fluid and bacteria and on contact with wound fluid forms a soft, cohesive gel that adheres closely to the wound surface, creating an ideally moist wound environment and aiding the removal of dead tissue from the wound (autolytic debridement).

Aquacel™ tamponades are designed for use as a primary dressing for deep wounds. They are intended for use under the guidance of a healthcare professional in accordance with the indications stated in the instructions for use.

Indications for use

Aquacel™ tamponades are indicated for:

• Ulcus cruris, decubiti (grade II-IV) and diabetic ulcers
• Surgical wounds (e.g. post-operative wounds with secondary healing and split-thickness skin removal sites)
• Traumatic wounds (e.g. lacerations, abrasions and cuts)

Tamponade sterile

Application

Aquacel™ tamponades can be worn for up to 7 days. If clinically indicated, the dressing must be changed earlier.

Instructions for use:

• Before applying the dressing, clean the wound area with a suitable wound rinse.
• The Aquacel™ tamponades should overlap the wound by at least 1 cm.
• When applying Aquacel™ tamponades to deep wounds, they should protrude at least 2.5 cm beyond the wound edge for better removal.
• Only fill deep wounds up to 80 %, as Aquacel™ tamponades expand on contact with wound fluid and fill the wound space.
• Apply the dressing to the wound and cover completely with a cover dressing that retains moisture (e.g. VARIHESIVE™ Extra Thin) or another suitable secondary dressing. Please refer to the package leaflet of the respective cover dressing for full instructions for use.
• All wounds should be checked regularly.
• Remove Aquacel™ tamponades when clinically indicated (i.e. in case of leakage, heavy bleeding or suspected infection).
• Aquacel™ tamponades can be worn for up to 7 days if clinically indicated.

On dry wounds

In addition to the instructions for use above:

• Moisten Aquacel™ tamponades with sterile water or sterile saline solution before applying to the dry wound.
• Cover the dressing with a cover dressing that retains moisture (e.g. VARIHESIVE™ Extra Thin) to prevent the dressing from drying out and subsequently sticking to the wound.
