Properties
Pale yellow to amber-coloured oil with a warm, sweet-balsamic, slightly spicy fragrance. Harmonises with: Vanilla, orange, palmarosa, sandalwood, bergamot, mandarin red.
Origin and use
The myrrh tree belongs to the balsam family and loves the glistening sun of the desert regions. Alongside frankincense, myrrh is one of the oldest drugs and treasures. The scent and essences have been used for prayers and rituals since time immemorial. In the fragrance lamp, it has a vitalising effect on the mind and stimulates the entire body. In massage oils, the calming effect and the effect against overstimulation are fully utilised.
Today, myrrh is particularly valued for its anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. Myrrh also has an astringent effect, which means that when applied, the outer layers of the mucous membrane contract and act like a protective film. This property means that myrrh is primarily used to relieve inflammation of the skin and mucous membranes in the mouth and throat.
