3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ is a sterile, freeze-dried protease-modulating matrix comprising 55 per cent collagen, 44 per cent ORC (oxidised regenerated cellulose) and 1 per cent silver-ORC.
Properties

In the presence of exudate, the protease-modulating matrix of 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ forms a soft, adaptable, resorbable gel. This enables contact with all areas of the wound.
3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix also contains silver, which provides antimicrobial protection against bacteria in wounds at risk of infection.1,2
The 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ matrix modulates and influences the wound microenvironment through the unique interaction of:
- Binding and deactivating proteases (i.e. metalloproteinases, elastases and plasmin), the excessive presence of which in chronic wounds has been shown to be detrimental
- Binding and protection of naturally occurring growth factors against their degradation by excess proteases
- These naturally occurring and protected growth factors are released back into the wound, whilst the proteases that inhibit healing remain inactive following the resorption of the 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix
- It has been shown that the 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ Matrix promotes the proliferation of human skin fibroblasts in vitro and, in laboratory tests, has the ability to neutralise free radicals and exerts an anti-inflammatory effect
3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ has been shown to possess haemostatic properties andcan be used in conjunction with compression therapy.
Indications
3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ is indicated for the treatment of all secondary-healing wounds that are free of necrotic tissue, including:
- Diabetic ulcers
- Venous ulcers
- Pressure ulcers
- Ulcers with various vascular causes
- Traumatic and surgical wounds
On dry wounds, 3M™ PROMOGRAN PRISMA™ should be moistened with saline or Ringer’s solution.
