• Folic acid contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy. A low folate level in pregnant women in the first trimester is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects (e.g. spina bifida) in the growing foetus. For this reason, folic acid should be taken as soon as you wish to have children in order to increase folate levels.
• Vitamin B12 and vitamin D3 have a function in cell division and contribute to the normal functioning of the immune system.
• Iodine contributes to the normal production of thyroid hormones.
• Zinc contributes to normal fertility and reproduction.
