The dark season usually not only depresses our mood, but also our vitamin D status. Getting enough UV-B rays during the short hours of sunshine in winter so that the body can produce vitamin D is difficult and in many parts of Europe not even possible. In addition to skin type, clothing and age, the body's own vitamin D synthesis also depends on the angle at which the sun hits the skin - and in many countries this is simply too flat in winter. At the same time, an adequate supply of vitamin D through diet is a challenge that can hardly be met, even if the vitamin is contained in some animal products.

However, as the "sun vitamin" supports the function of our immune system, it is advisable to keep an eye on your individual status, especially in the cold winter months, and to take additional support in the form of dietary supplements if your UV exposure is too low. Vitamin D levels also play a decisive role in special phases of life, such as pregnancy or advanced age, as the vitamin also contributes to the absorption of calcium and supports our bones and teeth.

1 capsule of vitamin D3 1000 I.U. contains 25 mcg (1000 I.U.) of vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). If consumed every 2 days, this corresponds to 12.5 mcg (500 I.U.) of vitamin D3, or 250% of the recommended daily intake according to the LMIV.
