myCARE urinary infection screening test for the detection of leucocytes, nitrite and protein in urine. A urinary infection is an inflammation of the urinary tract, usually caused by bacteria (especially E. coli bacteria).
Symptoms of infections of the lower urethra can include a burning sensation when urinating, a strong urge to urinate, cloudy colour and/or strong odour of the urine. If the bladder is also affected, this is called cystitis, a mild but unpleasant inflammation of the bladder. Infections of the upper urinary tract can cause similar symptoms, but with the addition of loin pain, fever and chills.
The detection of protein, white blood cells (leucocytes) or nitrite (many bacteria not normally found in urine convert nitrate from food into nitrite) provides information about an infection.
Why is the test important for me?
- A urinary infection is an inflammation of the urinary tract and is usually caused by bacteria. Men, women and children can suffer from urinary tract infections. Women are particularly affected, as are older men if an enlarged prostate disrupts the flow of urine.
Why is early detection important?
- Symptoms are not always present initially and depend on whether the lower or upper urinary tract is affected. Early detection prevents the bacteria from ascending and the development of pyelonephritis with severe pain and high fever.

Application
- To perform the test, you need the (morning) urine, which is collected in a container. Dip the test strip into the collected urine for approx. 2 seconds and read the result after a waiting time of 60 seconds.
- The test consists of three test fields, which indicate the presence of leucocytes, proteins or nitrites in your urine by changing colour.
