The möLab Streptococcus rapid test - Strep A test kit is used for the qualitative detection of Strep A-specific antigens in throat swabs.

Group A streptococci bacteria mainly colonise the human skin and throat. Four key clinical symptoms indicate group A streptococci in a sore throat: Sore throat, body temperature > 37 °C, tonsillar coating, disease of the anterior cervical lymph nodes without cough. Most cases are found in children. The rapid diagnosis of a streptococcal A infection prevents further complications if treated immediately - especially if treatment with antibiotics is not timely or inadequate - rheumatic fever with damage to the heart and kidneys can also occur.
