Red clover has long been cultivated here as a crop and green fodder. What is far less well known is that red clover is also traditionally used as a medicinal plant, namely the flowers, leaves and stems. This is because red clover contains "isoflavones", which are secondary plant substances that are also known as "phytoestrogens" because they are similar to the female hormone oestrogen.
