Vitaworld Zinc 15 mg drops are a liquid food supplement containing the vital trace element zinc.
Zinc is one of the vital trace elements that the body cannot produce itself and must therefore absorb with food. The body needs this essential trace element for numerous metabolic processes, from protein synthesis and cell division to many hormones, which cannot function without zinc, to the immune system, digestion, haematopoiesis and sperm production, for which zinc is essential. As the body does not have a zinc store, a daily intake of zinc is recommended. Foods with a high zinc content include oysters, which are particularly high in zinc, beef, seafood, sea fish, cheese and other dairy products as well as eggs and wholemeal foods. It should be noted that zinc from animal foods is better utilised by the body than zinc from plant sources.
For healthy people, an intake of approx. 15 mg per day is recommended, for pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers the recommendation is approx. 25 mg, as they have a higher daily requirement. Athletes are also sometimes recommended to increase their intake of zinc, as they lose some of the important trace element through sweat and increased physical exertion and stress can also lead to a higher zinc requirement. As vegetarians and vegans absorb more phytic acid due to their plant-based diet, which together with zinc forms an insoluble compound that prevents zinc absorption, an increased intake may also be advisable for them.
