Vitaworld R (+) Alpha Lipoic Acid Capsules are a dietary supplement containing 200 mg alpha lipoic acid in the bioactive R (+) form per capsule.

Alpha-lipoic acid is available in two forms: as R (+) alpha-lipoic acid, the natural endogenous form, or as S (-) alpha-lipoic acid, the synthetic isomer. Our product R (+) alpha-lipoic acid 200 mg contains only the pure, endogenous form.

Alpha-lipoic acid has two main functions in the human body: Firstly, as a coenzyme of enzyme complexes - including the pyruvate dehydrogenase and alpha-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase complexes - it is necessary for cellular energy production. On the other hand, alpha-lipoic acid acts as a radical scavenger and is considered to be extremely effective and versatile.

Alpha-lipoic acid is an important sulphur-containing fatty acid which, as an intermediate product in the body's choline metabolism, is both water- and fat-soluble. Alpha-lipoic acid can be produced by the body itself and absorbed through food. However, one of the special features of alpha-lipoic acid is that it can cross the blood-brain barrier between the bloodstream and the central nervous system. It can penetrate intra- and extracellular structures and is converted to dihydrolipoic acid.
