Vitactiv® B12 Spray is a high-quality dietary supplement that was developed to optimally supplement an insufficient supply of vitamin B12. It is available in a concentration of 250 μg adenosylcobalamin and 250 μg methylcobalamin in 2 pumps (daily dose).
What is vitamin B12 and what role does it play in the body?
- Vitamin B12 is one of the eight B vitamins. Like all the others, it is also water-soluble. Vitamin B12 is an essential vitamin, which means that it is vital and must be obtained from food as it cannot be produced by the body itself. After ingestion, vitamin B12 is transported from the stomach to the small intestine, where it is finally absorbed. As not every food and not every diet provides sufficient vitamin B12, it can also be substituted with food supplements.
- There are also drugs that can cause a deficiency in the vitamin balance as so-called "nutrient robbers", such as proton pump inhibitors (PPI), commonly known as stomach protectors.
- The body normally needs 1.5 - 3.0 μg of cobalamin daily. However, a higher dosage is required to ensure a supply of vitamin B12 that can compensate for deficiencies and also replenish storage systems. Drugs can greatly reduce transport systems, such as the intrinsic factor (IF), for example by changing the pH value in the stomach when using PPI. It is therefore necessary to take at least one hundred times the daily requirement. This is difficult to achieve with a normal diet, but the increased dosage can certainly cover the vitamin B12 requirement. As vitamin B12 is water-soluble, it cannot be stored in the body and therefore no overdose occurs. An excess of the vitamin is excreted via the kidneys.
