- For pain relief, improved joint mobility and faster restoration of joint function after arthroscopy or joint lavage in the shoulder or knee joint by removing the irrigation fluid and replacing the synovialfluid.
- Arthroscopy is a common procedure for the visualisation, diagnosis and treatment of joint problems. During arthroscopy , the joint is irrigated with solutions such as physiological saline solution or Ringer's lactate solution to create a clear view and remove cartilage debris . There is evidence that the rinsing fluid remaining in the joint can impair cartilage metabolism . In addition, the synovial fluid, which has special viscoelastic and protective properties due to its hyaluronic acid content, is rinsed out of the joint during the procedure. For this reason, patients who experience a long-term improvement in joint function as a result of the procedure may experiencecomplaints such as pain, swelling and impaired joint mobilityimmediately after the procedure.
- VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE was developed to alleviate such discomfort and speed up the recovery of joint function. VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE contains a highly purified specific fraction of hyaluronic acid produced by a fermentation process and contains no animal proteins . The instillation of VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE into the joint space contributes to the removal of residual irrigation fluid and provides an efficient coating of all surfaces in the joint. The VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE remaining in the joint acts as a lubricant and shock absorber and its network of macromolecules prevents the free passage of inflammatory cells and molecules through the joint space.

How to use
- Connect the Luer-Lock connector directly to a portal that is already in place and insert VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE into the joint space.
- Alternatively, a suitable needle can be locked onto the Luer-Lock connection and VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE can be introduced into the joint space via a portal that is already in place.
- After instillation, the joint should be moved once so that VISCOSEAL® SYRINGE is evenly distributed in the joint and a protective layer can be restored to the articular cartilage and synovial membrane.
