TUSSIMONT Cough Drops contain the medicinal plants thyme and ribwort, which have been used since time immemorial to treat colds. Thyme is rich in essential oil, which loosens stuck mucus and makes it easier to cough up. Ribwort plantain contains mucilage, which has a soothing effect on coughs. Thyme and ribwort also have antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties.

Active ingredients

• Thyme: The essential thyme oil extracted from the medicinal plant has an antispasmodic effect on the bronchial tubes and promotes expectoration in bronchitis and catarrh of the upper airways. It increases secretion as well as the transport function of the cilia movement (cilia on the mucous membrane) in the bronchi. It also utilises the antibacterial and antiseptic effect of thymol (the main ingredient of the oil), which is effective on inflamed bronchial mucous membranes. This antibacterial effect makes it more difficult for bacteria to multiply. Thyme cleanses the bronchial tubes and relieves the spasmodic contraction of the muscles that surround the bronchial tubes.
• Ribwort plantain: The mucilage it contains relieves irritation in cases of tough bronchial catarrh with heavy congestion. The protective effect of the mucilage is utilised, as is the astringent effect of the tannins it contains, which help to reduce the increased secretion. The antibacterial properties of the glycoside aucubin also have a positive effect.

How to use

• The recommended dose for adults and adolescents aged 12 and over is 10 - 20 drops 4 - 5 times a day,
• Children from 6 - 12 years: 10 drops 3 - 4 times a day,
• Children from 2 - 6 years: 5 drops 3 - 4 times a day.
• As there is insufficient data available and due to the alcohol content, use in children under 2 years of age is not recommended.
• Route of administration: TUSSIMONT Cough Drops can be taken with a little water or tea. Adults can also take the drops undiluted.
• Duration of use: If the symptoms worsen or if there is no improvement within 1 week, a doctor must be consulted.

Ingredients

• The active ingredients in 100 g are: 50 g liquid extract of thyme (Thymi herba), DEV 1:5-7 Extractant: ethanol 96 % (V/V) : Water : glycerol 85 % (30:40:30) 50 g liquid extract of ribwort plantain leaves (Plantaginis lanceolatae folium), DEV 1:1 Extractant: ethanol 30 % (v/v)
• The other ingredients are: Ethanol 96%, purified water, glycerol 85 % Total alcohol content: approx. 30 % (v/v). 1 g corresponds to 38 drops.
