Maitake (Grifola frondosa), also known as rattling sponge, is a slightly bitter-tasting edible mushroom. It grows in the form of tongue-like caps on tree stumps and roots. Maitake has been a favourite in Japan since ancient times. The Japanese name "mai-take" literally means "dancing mushroom", as mushroom pickers used to perform dances of joy when they found this rare mushroom. Before maitake could be cultivated in large quantities, the mushroom was so coveted and rare that it was valued in silver.
Maitake contains a whole range of biovital substances. It is rich in polysaccharides, lectins and nucleic acid precursors. The ß-D-glucan Grifolan in particular makes the mushroom interesting from a nutritional point of view.
As the mushroom is practically unavailable in Europe, you can now obtain its healthy properties in the form of capsules. Each vegan maitake extract capsule contains 500 mg of high-quality Grifola frondosa extract with a very high content of ß-D-glucans and valuable vitamin E. Vitamin E helps to protect the cells from oxidative stress. Just a few capsules a day make a significant contribution to a healthy diet.
