The African baobab tree (Adansonia digitata), also known as the baobab, is the characteristic tree species of the tropical savannahs south of the Sahara. During the rainy season, the tree produces fruits that are similar in hardness and size to coconuts. In the dry season, the tree extracts the water from the fruit, causing the flesh to dry naturally. After harvesting, the pulp is separated from the seeds and fibres and then gently processed.
