What makes the rosehip so special?
Rose hips are wild fruits and belong to over 200 species of wild rose, of which the dog rose (Rosa canina L.) is the best known. The rose hips of these various rose species differ in colour, shape and size. The rose hip is widespread and prefers to grow in sunny, rather barren locations in temperate climates, on every continent (except Antarctica, of course). It has long been valued in many parts of the world – in cosmetics, as tea, purée, oil and powder, both as a foodstuff and in dietary supplements.
Unlike true fruits, the rosehip is what is known as a ‘false fruit’, as its fruit develops from the receptacle rather than solely from the ovary. The rosehip also contains many small nuts inside – the actual seeds – which is why it is scientifically referred to as a ‘aggregate fruit’.
Special origin
The AP-4® rosehip grows on the only certified organic plantation in Chile, in a microclimate between the Andes and the Pacific. Cold nights and warm days promote slow growth and the optimal accumulation of vital nutrients.
Did you know that...
- AP-4 rose hips come from wild plants in southern Chile, specifically selected and cultivated in nutrient-rich volcanic soil. This special soil gives them unique mineral profiles and flavour.
Gentle processing
- Drying: Gentle drying of the fruit.
- Separation: The fruit skins and seeds are separated, and the irritating hairs on the seeds are removed (blown off).
- Grinding: The fruit skins and seeds are gently ground and then mixed back together – in the same ratio as in the natural fruit.
Did you know that...
- Every stage, from cultivation and drying right through to processing, is fully traceable. The result is a 100% pure, natural product with no additives. AP-48 is a registered trademark.
