The maca root has been cultivated in the high altitudes of the Peruvian Andes for around 2,000 years. Raab Bio Premium Maca Capsules are made exclusively from roots grown in Peru at altitudes of over 3,000 metres. The maca roots are dried immediately after harvesting and then finely ground. The maca root powder contains phytochemicals known as glucosinolates (160 mg / 100 g or 4 mg / 5 capsules).

What is maca?

Maca (Lepidium meyenii) is a tuberous plant native to the Peruvian Andes. It belongs to the genus Lepidium in the Brassicaceae family. In the Peruvian Andes, the root grows in volcanic soil and is exposed to extreme temperature fluctuations and strong winds. The growing season is in the Peruvian spring (around October in our part of the world) and the harvest takes place in June/July. The sweet-tasting root is used as a foodstuff, whilst the dried root is also processed into a powder for use in dietary supplements. In addition to the root, the young leaves are also eaten raw or cooked in Peru.
