What is lady's mantle and what is mugwort?
- Lady's mantle (Alchemillae herba) is a traditional plant from the rose family. It is a deciduous, perennial and herbaceous flowering perennial whose leaves resemble the often folded cloak of the Virgin Mary. This is where the name lady's mantle comes from. The plant is mainly found in Europe, Asia and the Balkans. Both the greenish-yellow flowers, which bloom from May to August and are harvested during this time, and the leaves can be used.
- Monk's pepper (Vitex agnus-castus), also known as chaste tree, belongs to the labiate family. This family also includes other herbs such as lavender, rosemary, thyme, sage, mint, basil and oregano. The monk's pepper bush can grow up to four metres tall and is native to southern Europe (from the Mediterranean to western Asia). In September and October, the shrub blossoms with its blue-purple flowers and serves as a valuable bee pasture. The fruits of the monk's pepper, which resemble peppercorns, are used.
