Sweet and fruity, the scent of geranium essential oil is reminiscent of roses. Native to South Africa, the geranium has existed in the wild since ancient times, but has only been cultivated since its arrival in Europe at the end of the 17th century. China is now the leading producer and exporter of scented geraniums. The cultivation of rose geraniums has become significant in North Africa and on Réunion.
