Sweet and fruity, the scent of geranium essential oil is reminiscent of the rose. Native to South Africa, geranium has existed in the wild since ancient times, but has only been cultivated since its arrival in Europe at the end of the 17th century. Today, China is the leading producer and exporter of fragrant geraniums. The cultivation of rose geraniums became important in North Africa and on Reunion Island.
