The Damask rose originates from the Persian region and is said to have been introduced from there by the Crusaders. The typical form of Rosa damasena is slightly climbing rose-like with slightly nodding pink flowers. The species that is cultivated today as an oil rose in Turkey, Morocco, Bulgaria, India, Persia and Russia is called Rosa damascena trigintipetala.
