Frangipani, also known as temple flower or West Indian jasmine, is a tree or shrub with intensely fragrant flowers that is native to Asia and Southeast Asia. The frangipani tree can grow up to 5 metres tall. In Asia, frangipani is considered a temple, ceremonial and sacrificial plant. On the Pacific islands, its flowers are used to make leis, the traditional welcoming wreaths, and in Bali the flowers are used as festive headdresses. The frangipani blossoms have the strongest scent at night and are used to make the precious absolute.
