Cistrose is a bushy shrub with wild rose-like flowers and thrives in the dry, low-lime soils of the garrigue and maquis of the Mediterranean region. Cistrose is one of the famous aromatic substances of antiquity; it was used as an incense and for the prevention of diseases. In perfumery, it is used in (oriental) perfumes, soaps and also in food flavouring. Naturopathy employs cistus in the treatment of skin and lymphatic conditions.
