Wood speedwell (Veronica officinalis) belongs to the plantain family (Plantaginaceae). In naturopathy, it is honoured by the phrase ‘To it be honour and praise as vera unica medicina, the one true remedy’. Speedwell has beneficial properties for itchy skin, acne, excess weight and metabolic problems. The herb used contains constituents such as essential oils, aucubin, aucubin glycosides, bitter principles, tannins, tannic acid, resin, as well as lactic acid and saponins.
