Molaxole powder is an over-the-counter medicine used to prepare an oral solution. Molaxole helps to promote comfortable bowel movements, even if you have been suffering from constipation for a long time.

Molaxole can also be used, following consultation with your doctor, for persistent constipation involving a build-up of faeces in the bowel, known as ‘coprostasis’. Macrogol 3350 increases the volume of faeces by binding water, thereby helping to normalise bowel movements. This results in improved passage of the softened stools and easier bowel movements. The salts in Molaxole help to maintain the body’s salt and water balance.

If you do not feel any better, or if your condition worsens, after 2 weeks, consult your doctor. If you are being treated for very persistent constipation (known as coprostasis), follow your doctor’s instructions.

Directions for use

The recommended dose for constipation is:

Adults: 1 sachet 1 to 3 times a day. The usual dose is 1 to 2 sachets per day. Depending on the individual’s response, up to 3 sachets per day may be required. The dose depends on the severity of the constipation. After a few days, the dose may be reduced to the lowest effective dose. The usual duration of treatment is 2 weeks. If symptoms persist after 2 weeks, please consult your doctor.
Children (under 12 years of age): It is not recommended to administer Molaxole to children under 12 years of age.

The recommended dose for faecal impaction (coprostasis) is:

Adults: The usual dose is 8 sachets per day. The dose of 8 sachets should be taken within 6 hours and – as required – over a period of up to 3 days. Treatment for faecal impaction usually lasts no longer than 3 days. If you are taking Molaxole for faecal impaction, it may be easier to dissolve all 8 sachets at once in 1 litre of water. This solution can be stored in the fridge.
Patients with heart disease: For the treatment of faecal impaction, the dose should be divided so that no more than 2 sachets are taken in any one hour.
Patients with impaired kidney function: No dose adjustment is necessary for the treatment of either constipation or faecal impaction.

Method of administration: Dissolve the contents of one sachet in half a glass of water (approximately 125 ml), stir until the powder has dissolved, and drink the solution. If you wish, you may add fruit juice or fruit syrup before drinking.
