HONEY with scientifically proven activity!

The positive properties of honey were recognised by the ancient Egyptians as early as 1550 BC. "Normal" honey contains hydrogen peroxide, a substance that is produced when bees add the enzyme glucose oxidase to the pollen after "harvesting" it with their saliva. It is released when the honey is dissolved in liquids such as water (or body fluids).

However, honey, which is mainly obtained from manuka, also contains a large number of ingredients, some of which are still unknown and have only recently been researched. At the University of Dresden, research was carried out with manuka honey from our supplier Manuka Health, which led to astonishing results. Professor Henle and his team successfully continued the work of the now retired Professor Molan from Waikato University in New Zealand: they discovered the ingredient methylglyoxal, which is several hundred times stronger in manuka honey than in conventional blossom honeys.

Our honeys are pure natural products without any manipulation and have withstood every test to date. Free from additives and residues of antibiotics or pesticides, they represent the power of New Zealand nature. The Maori in New Zealand have valued this honey for centuries for its special, beneficial properties.

Important: When buying Manuka honey, please note that not all varieties on offer are of the same quality. Plain (non-certified) manuka honey may be no better than normal blossom honey. The price of the honey usually depends on its quality - which is largely based on the content of the active ingredient methyglyoxal. Manuka honeys from Manuka Health are certified according to a process developed in collaboration with the Technical University of Dresden: MGO™ refers to the concentration of the strong active ingredient methylglyoxal per kilogramme. For example, a Manuka honey labelled "MGO™ 400+" contains 400mg methylglyoxal per kg or more.

In principle, the respective location (soil, plant growth) and seasonal influences also play a role in the quality aspects of honey. As no artificial substances are added to the honey, each batch is carefully tested and certified.

Manuka Health produces a range of Manuka honeys of different strengths and potencies. So please look out for the respective quality characteristics "MGO™" or "UMF" (you will still find the latter designation on some jars).
