Gall Pharma Q-10 200 mg capsules are a dietary supplement containing 200 mg of coenzyme Q10 per capsule. Coenzyme Q-10 is a vitamin-like substance that is responsible for the body’s energy production and for protecting it against external influences.
Coenzyme Q-10 (= ubiquinone) is a key component in all energy-producing processes and is required in every single one of the approximately 80 trillion cells in our body. In the mitochondria – the powerhouses of our cells – energy is produced in the form of ATP. However, this only occurs effectively if the mitochondria have sufficient quantities of coenzyme Q10. Higher concentrations are required particularly in high-performance organs such as the heart and brain, but also in the muscles, as there is an increased demand for metabolic energy (ATP) in these areas. Interestingly, the mitochondrial density in the muscles of athletes is considerably higher than in inactive individuals. To maintain the performance capacity of these muscles, higher amounts of coenzyme Q-10 are therefore required. Unfortunately, the body’s ability to produce coenzyme Q-10 declines with age.
The body’s own production of ubiquinone is also impaired by chronic stress and in people taking lipid-lowering medication. Although it is possible to meet this requirement through diet, higher concentrations of ubiquinone are unfortunately found precisely in the foods that are rarely consumed these days, such as offal (heart, liver, kidney and brain).
