The above-ground, flower- or fruit-bearing parts of this plant, which contain up to 2 % flavonoids, are utilised. Other typical ingredients are coumarins, polysaccharides and maltol. The calming properties of passionflower were already known to the Native Americans and are due to the secondary plant substances flavonoids.
Sleep disorders are affecting more and more people of all ages. There can be many causes for this. Stress often manifests itself in problems falling asleep. Passion flowers are particularly suitable as a dietary supplement to support falling asleep, especially if the psychological component plays a role.
