The mango is the fruit of the mango tree (Mangifera indica) from the kidney tree or sumac family (Anacardiaceae). The mango is originally native to South East Asia and has been cultivated in Assam (India) for more than 4000 years. Today, the mango is cultivated in all tropical countries and is harvested all year round in many of them. The evergreen mango tree is a fast-growing tree up to 30 metres tall that can live for several hundred years and still bear fruit. As with many tropical trees, the young leaves are yellowish to wine-red in colour, which then develop into dark green, leathery and shiny leaves. These grow up to 30 cm long and four to five cm wide. The yellowish to reddish, tiny flowers appear in inflorescences that can contain up to 2000 individual flowers.
The mango fruit itself grows as a drupe up to 25 cm long and can reach a weight of two kg. It is surrounded by a thin, somewhat leathery, smooth skin with a turpentine-like odour. The skin often varies in colour, it can be yellow, green or red or have all colours side by side. The colour is not decisive for the ripeness of the fruit. Although all fruits are green when unripe, there are also some that are still green when ripe. The juicy flesh is deep yellow in colour and more or less fibrous depending on the variety. The flavour of the mango is described as juicy, pleasantly sweet and very aromatic.
On average, 100 g of mango contains 80 g of water, 0.6 g of protein, 0.3 g of fat, 16 g of carbohydrates and 1.7 g of fibre. In terms of minerals and vitamins, it contains around 2 mg sodium, 10 mg calcium, 150 mg potassium, 2.7 mg carotenoids and around 40 mg vitamin C. The beta-carotene contained in the mango is suitable as sun protection from the inside. The body produces vitamin A from it, which protects the cells from free radicals - which are increasingly produced by sunlight. The skin ages more slowly and protects itself for longer. Vitamin A also promotes a healthy immune system and strengthens the eyes and eyesight. Mangoes are particularly suitable for people with acid and stomach sensitivities and can have a calming effect on the intestines due to their easily digestible properties.
Mango 400 mg GPH capsules contain 400 mg mango dry extract in a hard gelatine capsule. Carotenoids, vitamins, minerals, trace elements and enzymes are just some of the valuable ingredients of mango. The mango is one of the fruits richest in carotenes. If necessary, the body can convert carotenoids into vitamin A, which can act as an antioxidant to scavenge free radicals. As a dietary supplement, mango can strengthen the immune system, prevent premature skin ageing and ensure healthy eyes. The vital substances in mango can aid digestion and therefore have a favourable effect on the digestive system. Its high potassium content can help to maintain the acid-base balance.
