Gall Pharma Lutein/Zeaxanthin Capsules is a dietary supplement with 6 mg lutein and 6 mg zeaxanthin per capsule. The combination can have a positive effect on age-related macular degeneration (AMD) and support visual acuity.
The yellow carotenoids lutein and zeaxanthin protect the eye from damage caused by (sun)light. Lutein and zeaxanthin are found in particularly high concentrations in the yellow spot, in the retina of the eye. The two carotenoids are selectively accumulated in the yellow spot. Scientific studies suggest that a sufficient supply of the pigments lutein and zeaxanthin may reduce the risk of developing age-related macular degeneration and cataracts and have a positive effect on their progression. Zeaxanthin absorbs high-energy wavelengths of light and protects the sensitive structures of the eye from free radicals. Lutein absorbs blue light before it reaches the visual cells and thus prevents the formation of free radicals on the retina. The two carotenoids are therefore beneficial for maintaining the health of the eye and play a protective role.
