Gall Pharma L-Ornithine/L-Phenylalanine 3:2 Capsules are a food supplement containing 187.5 mg L-Ornithine and 125 mg L-Phenylalanine per capsule. The amino acid combination supports normal brain function and detoxification processes.
L-ornithine is a basic, non-proteinogenic amino acid that is produced in the urea cycle when urea is split off from L-arginine. It is found in many plants and is not itself a protein building block. In combination with arginine, citrulline and aspartic acid, L-ornithine is used for ammonia detoxification. Ammonia is converted into urea in the liver and excreted in the urine. L-ornithine is also important for the hormone release of insulin, prolactin, glucagon and the growth hormone and promotes immunocompetence.
L-phenylalanine, on the other hand, is an essential aromatic amino acid. In addition to protein biosynthesis, the metabolic effect of L-phenylalanine is based on its function as a precursor of L-tyrosine. Due to infections, trauma or liver diseases, the conversion of phenylalanine into tyrosine in the liver is impaired and tyrosine can thus become essential. L-phenylalanine and L-tyrosine are precursor substances for the neurotransmitter synthesis of dopamine, noradrenaline and adrenaline and the thyroid gland synthesis of thyroxine and triiodothyronine. The two are also involved in skin pigmentation.
L-phenylalanine is converted in the brain to dopamine and noradrenaline, two neurotransmitters that effectively initiate the secretion of somatropin. Somatropin has a positive effect on anabolic protein metabolism and fat burning. As the two amino acids have a stimulating effect, the combination should be taken in the morning or 30 - 60 minutes before training. People suffering from phenylketonuria should not take L-phenylalanine.
