L-methionine is one of the essential amino acids that the body cannot produce itself. It is a precursor of L-cysteine and taurine. L-methionine is involved in the synthesis of numerous compounds. These include colin, carnitine, melatonin and adrenaline. As a sulphur-containing amino acid, L-methionine is not only a protein building block but is also involved in numerous metabolic processes. It is particularly important for fat metabolism.
L-methionine provides essential building blocks for the synthesis of numerous endogenous substances and is therefore associated with the formation of tissue, defence functions in the urinary tract and can contribute to the elimination of heavy metals from the body.
