Folbene® capsules contain the optimum combination of vitamin B6, folic acid (vitamin B9) and vitamin B12. These B-complex vitamins are all water-soluble. This is why they cannot be stored in the body in the long term. Folic acid is mainly found in green leafy vegetables, pulses, wholemeal products and nuts. Folic acid is greatly lost through heating, which is why folic acid intake from food is often insufficient. All three vitamins contribute to normal homocysteine metabolism, normal function of the immune system, normal psychological function and reduction of tiredness and fatigue. Vitamin B6 also contributes to normal cysteine synthesis, normal energy metabolism, normal protein and glycogen metabolism, normal function of the nervous system, normal red blood cell formation and the regulation of hormonal activity. Folic acid plays a role in the process of cell division.

The additional intake of folic acid increases the maternal folic acid status and contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy. A low maternal folic acid status is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the developing foetus. Folic acid also contributes to normal amino acid synthesis and normal haematopoiesis. Vitamin B12 also plays a role in the process of cell division and contributes to the normal function of the nervous system, to normal energy metabolism and to the normal formation of red blood cells.
