Vine leaves are the leaves of the grapevine. They contain flavonoids, the red colour is created by anthocyanins as ingredients. Vine leaves were used by the Sumerians as early as 2000 BC and are also mentioned by Hippocrates, Galen and Hildegard von Bingen. These traditional works describe applications in the area of all vascular systems. Today there are descriptions of red vine leaves in several European pharmacopoeias. Traditional areas of application are still heavy legs and other vascular systems
