The fruits of the rowan berry or rowan ash are a valuable component of the local flora. Contrary to popular belief, the berries are not poisonous but contain a variety of valuable ingredients. These include provitamin A, sorbitol, from which the sugar substitute used to be obtained, and above all a very high vitamin C content. Among other things, vitamin C contributes to the normal functioning of the immune system, to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue and to normal energy metabolism.
