Hawthorn (Crataegus) belongs to the rose family (Rosaceae). The ingredients are oligomeric procyanidins and flavonoids, which are found particularly in the flowers. The main components are hyperoside and rutoside. Hawthorn leaves have a variety of effects on the heart and blood vessels. The plant is also said to promote blood circulation and dilate blood vessels.
