Common ground elder (Aegopodium podagaria) belongs to the umbellifer family (Apiaceae). Its most important constituents include essential oils, various minerals such as potassium and magnesium, trace elements, vitamins A and C. Goutweed is said to have anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic, detoxifying and diuretic properties, which is why it used to be used as a remedy for gout and rheumatism as well as for cystitis and spring fatigue.
