Feverfew belongs to the composite family (Asteraceae). Motherwort was already used in the Middle Ages to treat headaches and fever. The most important ingredients of this plant include sesquiterpene lactones, flavonoids and essential oils. Feverfew is said to have positive effects in the prevention of migraine attacks. Nausea and vomiting associated with migraines can also be alleviated. It is also said to have antispasmodic and digestive properties. Feverfew is also used to treat menstrual cramps. Traditionally, feverfew is also used externally for purulent wounds and insect bites.
