Couch grass root has been shown to have beneficial effects on inflammatory conditions of the urinary tract, cystitis and kidney stones, as well as on gout and rheumatism, and is therefore frequently used as a flushing therapy. The active ingredients consist of mucilage and saponins. It also contains silicic acid, potassium salts and iron, as well as vitamins A and B.
