The bellflower root (Codonopsis radix) is regarded in traditional Chinese medicine as a stimulating and fortifying agent (strengthens the central Qi). In Ayurvedic medicine, Codonopsis root is used to treat loss of appetite, weakness, states of exhaustion, vomiting, shortness of breath, coughing, and weakness of lung Qi and spleen Qi.
