The Pater Severin yam spray is a dietary supplement based on an old monastery recipe for ingestion. Made from a 100 % aqueous/alcoholic extract of yam root.
The yam belongs to a plant family with approx. 800 species. It is a popular food that is very similar in flavour to the sweet potato. The wild yam used here, Dioscorea villosa, is native to North America and contains a particularly high amount of the ingredient diosgenin. Diosgenin is used in the modern pharmaceutical industry in the laboratory as a starting material for the production of semi-synthetic sex hormones such as progesterone, glucocorticoids and oral contraceptives. Diosgenin is also metabolised in the human body. Yams were already used by the Native Americans as a "women's plant", as it has various positive effects for women of all ages
