Vervain (Verbena officinalis) belongs to the verbena family (Verbenaceae) and is known as a traditional medicinal plant. The parts of the plant used are the flowering herb, which contains substances such as essential oils, glycosides, verbenalin, verbenin, bitter substances, as well as tannins and silicic acid. It is said to have anti-inflammatory, diuretic and antispasmodic effects. Vervain is also known to have positive effects on problems with the respiratory tract, rheumatism, gout and menstrual cramps.
