Pater Severin Vanilla Drops are a dietary supplement for oral use. The vanilla drops contain a high-quality aqueous/alcoholic extract from the vanilla pod.
Vanilla (Vanilla planifolia), also known as spice vanilla or true vanilla, belongs to the orchid family (Orchidaceae). The main constituents of vanilla are essential oil, vanillin, vanillic acid, vanillyl alcohol, resins, mucilage, tannins and many other components. In the 18th century, vanilla found its way into many pharmacopoeias. For example, it was used as an aphrodisiac, to treat hysteria and menstrual disorders, and, in combination with iron, to treat iron deficiency. Nowadays, it is mainly used as a flavouring agent. Vanilla is also used to treat bile and muscle weakness.
